Meet The Traveler!

Hello everyone! My name is Mesgana Mekibib, and I am a junior at the University of Cincinnati studying Neuropsychology, with a certificate in Legal Studies. I am a Cincinnati native, born and raised here! Two of my favorite things involve traveling and writing, so I am very excited to see where this blog takes me, and most importantly, to get the opportunity to travel to Iceland this winter!

I've always struggled a lot with anxiety issues, and making sure everything is exact and perfect, and I would also turn to writing as an escape into my own little world. It's one of my favorite hobbies. I also love turning to travel, as my urge to ensure everything is done in a certain way completely dissipates when I am introduced to a new place, and I would instead embrace the carefree me that is waiting in the wings to come out. If I had the time and the money, I'd certainly just spend all my days going to new places and exploring. I have traveled to a plethora of places with my family, including a large chunk of the 50 states, Ethiopia (our home country), and Italy. I also travelled with my honors group in freshman year of high school to Chicago.

Throughout each experience, I would experience the more relaxed version of myself and I would always be crestfallen to return back to my native city (jet lag wasn't the only reason I was sluggish). Each place was so similar, yet so different, and that fascinated me. Ethiopia's capital city, Addis Ababa, was heavily populated. However, so was Italy. So was Los Angeles. So was Chicago. But they differed in terms of the scenery: how the people interacted with one another, the types of transport that were being used, and the languages that people spoke.

I believe that learning these differences help make a well-informed traveler, and I am excited to see how the scenery differs when I travel to Iceland this winter! As I mentioned earlier, writing is one of my favorite things to do, so I am looking forward to see how this class helps enhance my writing while doing another thing I love (traveling)! I am so excited to embark on this journey and see how I grow.
